First Christian I'm New to First Christian Church

We have put together some information we hope will be helpful to anyone
interested in visiting First Christian Church.

Worship

What can you expect when you first visit?

You can expect to be warmly welcomed. You can expect to see people enjoying being together, laughing and talking. You can expect to be in a place where you can worship, where you are comfortable and familiar: whether in a traditional or contemporary way. You can expect to see your neighbors. You can expect to hear the Word of God preached and taught. You can expect to feel a worshipful atmosphere. You can expect to "feel at home".

Join us Sundays as we come together to worship, learn and change. We hold Scripture in the highest regard, and offer an excellent children's message and Junior Church for our youngest worshipers.

Getting to the Church

The church is located at 1101 Madison Street, Rochester, Indiana 46975. Click here for a map and access to driving directions. Warning: some maps and GPSs don't know the Madison is a one way street going north. To drop people at the door or park in the handicap area, turn off Main on 12th street, left on Madison and right into the church drive. Coming via 11th street gives access to the two parking lots and the on street visitor parking.

Worship Service
Just to the left inside the entrance, you will be greeted and given a bulletin. The Sanctuary is ahead and bathrooms are to the right. Everyone is welcome. We hold Communion every week and all may take part.

Infants and Children
• Children, along with the sounds they make, are welcome to either stay with their family in worship or be brought to the nursery.
• Whether you need infant or toddler care for the 9:30 Worship Service or Sunday School, a friendly face will be ready for you with systems in place for more help when they need it.
• When you drop off your child, you will receive a "beeper" which will vibrate if your child needs you.

Junior Church
It is often hard for a young child to sit through an entire hour of church worship. So on Sunday, following the Children's Sermon, children 4 years old through 5th grade have the option of going to Junior Church where they learn about Jesus in an atmosphere more appropriate for their age.

Fellowship Time
After the worship service, people gather in the social hall for a quick greeting before Sunday School. Tasty cookies are available at the kitchen window. Coffee and tea are in the niche to the left of the kitchen.

Sunday School
When the bell rings, it is time for Sunday school.

Four year olds through 5th grade start in worship and are dismissed following Children's Moment to Junior Church and Sunday School. A team of teachers leads this group and usually divides them into 2 classes with 4 year old -- 2nd grade meeting together and 3nd -- 5th meeting together. The classes break following worship for fellowship time then gather again for Sunday School.

Elementary School students meet each week in the first room on the far side of the Fellowship Hall. Lessons usually include some sort of craft or project with the lesson.

Middle and High Schoolers (6th-12th grades) meet together in the middle classroom on the far side of the Fellowship Hall.

Three Adult Classes are in the classroom off Fellowship Hall next to the kitchen, the library at the top of small stairs, and meeting in the third classroom on the far side of the Fellowship Hall).
